Why does this happen?

As endurance athletes, we are gluttons for punishment and often believe that we need to train harder to overcome plateaus, slow race times, and break through the motivational wall.  This is not true! 

More often than not we have pushed ourselves to the brink while training, but have failed to appropriately monitor volume, use proper progressions, and use proper running mechanics. This failure to focus on the details in our training often results in injuries, slow times, and frustration.
